When thermostat replacement comes up

Hotels consider replacing or upgrading guest-room thermostats for many reasons — aging or failing hardware, guest comfort complaints, a renovation, or a plan to add or change energy management. This page is about working through those scenarios case by case, grounded in what INNCOM's documentation actually supports. It is not a blanket statement that any current INNCOM thermostat "should" be replaced.

Documented replacement and retrofit paths

We only describe paths that appear in INNCOM's documentation:

• Controllers: INNCOM documents that the X47 is a backward-compatible replacement for the older X07. If an older controller fails or is being upgraded, the X47 is the supported modern path.
• E528 to e7 upgrade: when a property elects to move from the E528 to the newer e7 platform, the e7 is a plug-and-play replacement for the E528. This is an optional upgrade choice — the E528 remains supported and still in production, so replacement is driven by the property's decision and needs, not by lifecycle status.
• Retrofit with a wireless thermostat: INNCOM's battery-powered, RF thermostats (E529, e7-W) are documented as suitable for retrofits — especially where pulling new wiring would be difficult.

Wired vs wireless in a retrofit

• New construction: wired thermostats are the preferred approach.
• Retrofit: wired thermostats are also commonly used where the existing wiring has enough conductors and is suitable.
• When wiring is the constraint: if the existing thermostat wiring doesn't provide enough conductors, or pulling additional wiring is impractical, a wireless / battery option such as the E529 (fully compatible with older INNCOM systems) or the e7-W is the documented alternative.

Controllers in a replacement

A thermostat replacement often goes hand-in-hand with the controller that switches the HVAC loads. INNCOM's controller families include the X47 and the X05/X06 relay modules, which manage heating/cooling/fan outputs. Because wiring, voltage, and relay ratings matter, compatibility must be confirmed against the specific unit.

A note on running in INNCOM thermostats

Many INNCOM thermostats are in active, healthy service — including the established E528 platform, which is still produced. If your system is working and supported, there may be no reason to replace it. Replacement is driven by the actual condition and needs of your property, not by an assumption that a thermostat is "old" and therefore due for retirement.

Discontinued and legacy parts

Some older INNCOM components are no longer manufactured. When a part is discontinued, we help identify the documented compatible replacement or the appropriate upgrade path for the existing system.
