INNCOM E528 Thermostat
What the INNCOM E528 Is
The INNCOM E528 is a wired, wall-mounted thermostat built around a Direct Digital Control (DDC) processor. It is one of INNCOM's e4-family smart digital thermostats and a core part of INNCOM's Integrated Room Automation System (IRAS). INNCOM designed it to manage heating and cooling across the HVAC equipment found in hotel guest rooms — fan coil units, heat pumps, and packaged terminal air conditioners.
The E528 is an established INNCOM thermostat that is still in production and has a large installed base. It remains an actively supported, relevant platform for parts, support, troubleshooting, and project planning. This page is the overview; the deeper how-to lives in our field guides.
Documented applications in the guest room
Beyond holding a set point, the E528 can act as the information hub of a guest room, gathering status from connected sensors and devices and passing it to the central system. INNCOM's product guide lists capabilities the E528 can support, including:
- Remote HVAC control and guest-room diagnostics
- Remote occupancy indication
- Automatic lighting control
- Remote mini-bar access reporting
- Remote smoke detector annunciation
- Central electronic lock (CELS) integration
- Humidity control
- Remote drape control
- Outside temperature display
- Peak-demand load shedding
- Property management / building management (PMS/BMS) interface
Which of these a property actually uses depends on how the room and network are configured.
How the E528 controls heating and cooling
The E528 ships with five built-in relays, giving it direct control over a room's HVAC equipment. The common arrangement uses those relays for heating, cooling, and three fan speeds, which suits direct control of fan coil units and PTACs. It automatically adjusts fan speeds and valves to reach the set temperature, and a guest can choose OFF, AUTO, HEAT, or COOL at the front of the unit.
The E528 works across common hotel line voltages, from 24 VAC up to 100–277 VAC, with the exact variant matched to the building at ordering time.
Occupancy sensing and energy management
The E528 can be equipped with an on-board passive infrared (PIR) motion detector so it can sense whether a room is occupied. When combined with a magnetic door switch, motion detectors, and a light sensor, the E528 coordinates the room's energy management locally. In INNCOM's guidance, a door switch is the recommended input for the strongest control.
The E528 can also give the guest an ecoMODE green button — a documented feature that lets a guest opt into a more efficient mode with one press.
Actual savings vary by property and configuration, so we describe the mechanism rather than quoting a universal number.
Networked and standalone operation
- Standalone: it holds temperature and runs its local energy-management logic using the devices wired to it (door switch, motion sensor).
- Networked: it connects to a central INNCOM server — over INNCOM's CINET wiring with a pair of low-voltage wires, over a property's TCP/IP network through an Ethernet gateway, or over RF on a radio-equipped model. Once on the network it reports occupancy, alarms, and runtime data to the central system.
Configurations we can verify
- Wall-mounted; located on an interior partition wall roughly 1.5 m (about 5 ft) above the floor, mounted flush and level, away from drafts, direct sunlight, and heat sources.
- A common 24 VAC mounting uses a standard double-gang (4 × 4) junction box; low-voltage mounting plates or mud rings may be used for 24-volt applications.
- Available variants span 24 VAC and 100–277 VAC supply.
- Optional on-board RF (2.4 GHz) or IR communication is documented.

Troubleshooting and field guides
This page is the overview. For the deeper, room-level troubleshooting the E528 sometimes needs — error codes, lockouts, and service mode — we've written a separate field guide.

The E528 and the INNCOM e7
The E528 is an established, still-produced INNCOM thermostat with a large installed base. The e7 is the newer/current-generation platform. For properties choosing to move to the e7, the e7 is a plug-and-play replacement for the E528. Both remain relevant, and the appropriate choice depends on the property, HVAC equipment, wiring, and project requirements.
